31 Day Self Care Challenge: Day 6

Day 6: Take a mental health day.

Your job is replaceable but your sanity isn’t. Your job can easily replace you and find another employee but you cannot replace your mind and find another one.

If your friends are your friends then they should understand. If your family supports you then they should understand.

You cannot replace your health. You cannot replace yourself. Your family, friends, children, spouse cannot replace you.

That is why you should take good care of yourself even if that means stepping away from that demanding job. Even if that means making sure you’re more than ok before making sure everyone else is ok.

It is so easy to go out and spend time with friends and/or family. You cover your pain in smiles. Your exhaustion is eating away at you yet noone notices. Your amidst good-natured banter, all you see is smiles, and everyone is having an amazing time. Time is going by quickly yet you feel like time has stopped. You feel like you’re on an island, not on vacation but in isolation. Noone seems to see that with every step,  dread embraces you. You’re  deteriorating right before their eyes but a good ole time blinded them to your desperate cries.

What does it mean when the battery light in your car comes on when you’re driving?

It means something is wrong.

What does it mean when the battery light comes on in your car and your car starts to smoke from the hood?

It means you need to pull over and see what is wrong.

What happens if you continue to drive when your car is smoking from the hood and the battery light is on in your car?

You’ll end up broke down on the side of the road or better yet in the middle of the street. Either your car cannot be fixed or it’ll  be extremely expensive to repair.

What am I trying to say?

You’re that car, your body is the engine light and if you keep pushing yourself you’ll end up in a bad predicament. One that will cost you, you.

Repairing and rebuilding yourself isnt always easy.

So I encourage you and suggest, if you notice you need a mental health day, take it. Get some rest, spend time with your family, with friends, maybe away from your family and your friends. Take time for yourself, do something you love, anything that you know will bring you back to a sense where you belong. Happiness.

Do not allow a job to destroy a mind they did not build. Do not allow people to make you feel guilty for recharging.
